The Stop. Pause. Think. Now Act. methodology for emotional intelligence in the workplace is the result of Joanne Grobbelaar’s 15+ years as a business development consultant and the previous 20 years climbing the corporate ladder. Having clocked up thousands of hours coaching and consulting with hundreds of organisations across a full range of industries, sizes, maturity levels and goals, she’s seen the good, the bad and the ugly. She can recognise patterns, provide perspective, see routes forward and apply her knowledge bank to unique situations.

A pattern she recognised in all organisations was the connection between emotional intelligence in the workplace and successful business development. Think - We want to respond to situations with logical thinking but often our thoughts get tied up in fears, limiting beliefs and other negative thought patterns that prevent us from coming to a fair conclusion. As you weigh up your options, reflect on the thought patterns you are using to respond and how you can align them with emotional intelligence.

Now Act - Once you have taken the time to self-regulate, you can act on the conclusion you have come to. The critical part of this step is communicating your response in a way that accounts for other people’s emotions and perspectives so it can be resolved with minimal conflict.
